I can tell you about dis stuff, Harpy. Deer hunting is a religion in Wisconsin. They don't use guns to shoot people in Wisconsin (except, perhaps, in Kenosha....but that's an aberration). Hunting deer is the thing. On Fridays in Deer Season, US Highway 41 is bumper-to-bumper with traffic going "Up North" to hunt deer. And if they don't get any deer, at least they drink a lot of brandy. And then on Sunday night, US 41 is bumper-to-bumper going south, and many vehicles have deer carcasses tied to the top. Now I know you're more-or-less on the other end of Highway 41, and I don't imagine you have too many deer carcasses on the southern end of the Dixie Highway.

When I was growing up in Racine, we were in an Augustinian parish with German priests and brothers and nuns. Brother Maurice drove our school bus, and he also raised Labrador retriever hunting dogs. Every Fall, he'd go North and get a deer for the German nuns to cook up. He had a crane alongside the church for hanging his deer once he got it, for whatever reason people hang deer and other game.

I went to Mass at the old parish a few years ago, and the priests are now American Augustinians and there are no nuns and brothers. I talked with the current parishioners and pointed out the crane on the side of the old church. They had no idea what the crane was for. I think I grossed them out.

But the venison sure tasted good, especially with the sauerkraut and rotkohl and seasoned boiled potatoes the nuns made.

Ya, sure!
