Subject: RE: BS: Trump Actions and Effects
I still think the observation of what 'hasn't changed' is worth careful observation. It goes away from Trump a little, in that it is a show of what Democrats either are 'afraid to touch' or 'glad it happened':
Of course the Supreme Court selections: Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett. I don't think the issue of 'packing the court' is a realistic one. There are multi-sided face-offs here: Fear-mongering Republicans either Trummpies or none Progressive Dems raising the issue Centrist Dems not pressihng the issue
Since the current face-off within the court is 6-3 in favor of what are considered the conservatives over the liberals, packing the court to reverse this perception would require a 7-6 selection to say the least, so we'd have to go from 9 to 13 justices to make a 'worthwhile' political difference, which means getting the change made and getting four new justices. I do not see this as even close to realistic. It may have made sense for the Democrats to leave this option theoretically on the table prior to a general election in order to keep the Progressives with the Centrists (I am bundling everyone not a Progressive into the Centrist category), but I don't think this issue plays out in local politics anywhere. So as far as Democrats go, until a general election, it's gone.
