"Robot" comes from the Czech word "Robota" (meaning "forced labor") and was created by Karl Capek in his 1920 play Rossum's Universal Robots.

It's an interesting play and you should read it. Better yet, recite is out loud or stage it. After all, drama is meant to be staged.
