I can answer that. A political appointee is considered to be a Schedule C. The schedule C appointees are only for the duration of the president who did the appointment. They are having a hard time finding jobs since they usually go back into think tanks like Heritage, Patrick Henry, and other repub sanctuaries. Right now those places aren't hiring like they used to. Bannon and Miller are the new sanctuaries. They can 'burrow in' by trying to get a job by applying for a Fed job with an agency. They have a right to apply but no rights to automatically be hired. The Post Office position you know about is not a schedule C. People hired by advise and consent of the Senate are not immune from being fired and replaced unless they are part of the judiciary like a Supream Court Judge. Former lawyers appointed to the Justice Department by Trump are outta there unless they 'burrowed in'.
