Thread Name: Stan Hugill's Performances
Subject: RE: Stan Hugill's Performances
'Three Score and Ten' has been recorded by many singers, probably most influentially by The Watersons. One Leeds group even called themselves 'Three Score and Ten' after the song. Don't remember Stan singing it. The song was collected in Filey from the fishermen's choir, by Nigel Hudleston about 1960, but it was written by William Delf(t) of Grimsby and printed for him on a broadside to be sold to raise funds for the fishermen's families. The great storm was in February 1889, not 1880.

We had Stan with Bob Roberts for our Hull Whaling Festival in 1969. Unfortunately I don't think anyone recorded what they sang. I'll check the archives, see what we have.
