Though it’s something I try not to do - for instance, when I sing Richard Shindell’s ‘Reunion Hill’ I always sing the “Dowsing for my husband’s face” line exactly as written, because I feel it’s respectful to the spirit of the song. Of course, now that same-sex marriage is legal and accepted as ‘normal’, i guess it no longer sounds odd to hear a man sing about his husband.
