I learned this song as a girl scout, in Sunnyvale CA. It was the early 1960's, and mostly similar to all the other versions, with Bahia very distinctly at the end of the repeating chorus - but a totally different last verse.

"Now i'm old and gray: o ole o Bahia
I'm an old maid to this day: o ole o Bahia
But my heart still rests in peace : o ole o Bahia
For life's wonders never cease! o ole o Bahia
chorus: ole o la ole o Bahia etc"

Interesting indeed are all the variations, though this seems the most radical.
