I've been listening to Ellen Harpers book on talking book.

Ellen tells a story about her problems booking the Reverend Gary Davis. How she was warned not to let him drink alcohol, how he turned nasty and finally drank a whole bottle of Jim Bean and collapsed.

I always got the impression from Pete Seeger and Stefan Grossman's recollections that he was pleasant rather avuncular character, and goes without saying - his playing was genius level.

Did anyone here know him?
