ÁIRD A' CHUAIN
Aird a' Chuain, Ardaigh Chuain (various renderings of the place name) is a song about someone abroad (in Scotland) missing home on the north Antrim coast of Ireland. One verse mentions Nollaig, which can mean either the month of December or the Christmas holiday.
Is iomai Nollag a bhí mé féin i mBun Abhainn Doine
Is mé gan chéill
Ag iomainn ar a trá bán
'S mo chaman bán ins mo dhorn liom
It is many a Christmas Day I had
In Cushendun while still a lad;
Hurling on the White Shore Strand
With my good ash hurley in my hand. (singable translation by Seán Ó Gallochóír)
sung by Éamonn Ó Faogáin (youtube link)
