I am probably stating the obvious.

The buckeye is a tree that grows profusely in the central United States. It gets its name from a non-edible , hard, dark brow shell about the size of a hazelnut with a light brown round patch at its apex. i.e. it resembles the eye of a deer.

People from the state of Ohio are often referred to as "buckeyes", A term they take as a compliment. Their football team is referred to as Buckeyes.

A local confection is also called a "buckeye."
A round ball of peanut butter is sweetened with confectioner's sugar. Then chilled, with a temporary toothpick inserted so it may be dipped and coasted in melted chocolate with a circle of light brown peanut butter showing. It resembles the seed. A mellon baller scoop is the right size.
