Thread Name: Ashtabula Train Disaster 1876 songs?
Subject: RE: Ashtabula Train Disaster 1876 songs?
Julia A Moore, the "Sweet Singer of Michigan" wrote a song about the Ashtabula train disaster using the melody of "Gently Down the Stream of Time." She wrote it lamenting the death of Phillip Bliss a popular hymn writer who perished with his wife in the crash. She often wrote songs using his melodies, though curiously she did not use one of his melodies for this. (Julia A. Moore is an interesting and amusing thread to follow)
