Luc Plamondon (1942 - ) / Michel Berger (1947 – 1992)

On a ri, on a pleuré

ZIGGY (A Boy Unlike the Others)
(English Translation)

Ziggy, his name is Ziggy
I'm crazy about him
He's a boy unlike the others
But I love him, it's not my fault
Even if I know
That he will never love me

Ziggy, his name is Ziggy
I'm crazy about him
The first time I saw him
I threw myself upon him on the street
I simply told him
That I wanted him

It was four o'clock in the morning
I was alone and I needed
To talk to someone
He told me, "Come take a coffee."
And we told each other our lives
We laughed, we cried

Ziggy, his name is Ziggy
He's my only friend
In his head there's only music
He sells discs in a store
It seems he's living in another galaxy

Every night, he takes me to dance
In very, very cheerful/gay places
Where he has lots of friends
Yes, I know, he likes boys
I should come to terms with it
And try to forget him, but

Ziggy, his name is Ziggy
I'm crazy about him
He's a boy unlike the others
But I love him, it's not my fault
Even if I know
That he will never love me
*"gai" can be understood as "cheerful/merry" or "gay", hence the pun.

A Boy Unlike the Others (Ziggy)") is a French-language song written by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger for the 1978 cyberpunk rock opera, Starmania. In 1991, it was covered by Canadian singer Celine Dion for her album, Dion chante Plamondon. (Wiki article about the song)
Starmania is now considered one of the most famous rock operas in French history.
An English version with lyrics by Tim Rice, titled Tycoon, premiered with the release of a studio recording in 1992, which starred Kim Carnes, Celine Dion, Nina Hagen, Peter Kingsbery, Cyndi Lauper, Willy DeVille, Kevin Robinson and Tom Jones. (Wiki article about the musical).

ZIGGY (English Version)
Tim Rice (1944 - )/ Michel Berger

Ziggy, I call him Ziggy
I'm so hot for him
He's not at all like all the rest
But he's held out and he's the best
Even if I know
He would never go with me

Ziggy they call him Ziggy
I'm so hot for him
And when I saw him that first day
I went and gave myself away
Oh so indiscreet
Oh but he was sweet to me

Four a.m. he's here by my side
Talking, laughing and making friends
Making fun of me too
He can do whatever he wants
I don't mind, but he pretends
Not to see what I go through

Ziggy, my crazy Ziggy
I get weak for him
He lives a life that I can't share
I don't know why but I know where
Oh it breaks my heart
Knowing I'm not part of him

Why won't he try anything new?
I would be his very best
And his first, in many ways
Oh if I were one of his boys
Thin and languid and self-possessed
So in demand nowadays, oh

Ziggy, my crazy Ziggy
I get weak for him
He lives a life that I can't share
I don't know why but I know where
Oh it breaks my heart
Knowing I'm not part of him
Baby, Ziggy
