Hello, Piers. I had a similar experience when somebody gave me a wooden xylophone with one bar missing. I enjoyed playing it especially late at night. My favorite tune was "This is a Rose in Spanish Harlem."

I know what you mean about not liking the highest notes. I don't like to play much past high D on my dulcimer.
