Thread Name: Just where IS Glocca Morra?
Subject: RE: Just where IS Glocca Morra?
I can't believe this thread is still alive after 10 years.

Pubs at junctions are used, all over Ireland, for giving directions. The main road from Cork Airport into the city has a junction called the Bull McCabe. It's used by everyone for giving directions. "Turn Left or Right at the Bull McCabe" etc. However "The Bull McCabe" is an old pub with a newish name, maybe 20 years old. There is no geographical location called "Bull McCabe" There is a pub, however, called after the main character in a J.B. Keane drama, called the "The Field" which was made into a successful movie. The main character "Bull McCabe" (he was not actually a real bull!) was nominated for an Acadamy award. However, he was not named after the well known Cork bar.

One document from Cork County Council, does not outweigh all the other evidence that there is no such place as Glocca Morra / Glocca Mara / Glocca Maura, apart from private premises. The present Cork County Council website has no reference to any of those names. The document sited obviously referred, with an erroneous spelling, to the junction where the Glocca Maura pub stands.

The official database for place names in Ireland, has no such location as Glocca Morra / Glocca Mara / Glocca Maura.

Oh God! I'm tired.
