The song was recorded by the Calypsonians on February 10, 1957. They eventually evolved into the Kingston Trio They learned the song from a group called the Easy Riders. It was written by Terry Gilkyson. It appeared on the Kingston Trio's first album appropriately called "The Kingston Trio on Capital T/DT 996 released on June 2, 1958.
