Thread Name: 365 'Songs of the Century'
Subject: RE: 365 'Songs of the Century'
Either I'm weird, or the people who made the list are. 365 songs and maybe 10 would have been in my top 100. And I think my tastes aren't that abnormal--I'd have picked a lot of the same artists.

For instance, the list includes the first composer I'd think of if you asked for the greatest songwriter of all time--but with one of his worst songs. (Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria".) Where is Marian Anderson's recording of "Der Tod und das Maedchen"?

Some (10?) years ago, there was a PBS special of modern performances of the top songs (not recordings) from the first half of the century. I found a lot more to agree with on that list ("Just One of Those Things", for example). Most memorable moment of the show: Dinah Shore rocking the house on "Blues in the Night".

Trivia question: what piece of music is on the list twice? (Useless hint: it would have made my top 10.)
