My colleague and I are working on a research study involving the books published by the Cooperative Recreation Services. We have found over 25 songbooks that are specific to individual states, usually titled " Sings." Often they were compiled by organizations in the state; for example, the Alabama Music Educators Association put together "Alabama Sings." We've also found several that were compiled for 4-H, Scouts, Methodist groups, and Congress of Parents and Teachers, all published between late 1950's - early 1970's. This has become an extensive project that we have thoroughly enjoyed as we discover more and more of these books. NOTE: please let me know if you have and would be willing to part with "Alabama Sings;" we do not have a hard copy and that's the book that began our trip down the rabbit hole!
