Thread Name: Paul McCartney at Glastonbury
Subject: RE: Paul McCartney at Glastonbury
I was travelling home from an afternoon/early-evening gig I’d been playing with the band in Buckinghamshire, and the A1 was closed north of Stamford, so a long diversion through Oakham and Melton Mowbray to rejoin the A1 at Grantham, and then onwards to my home, meant that I was able to listen to most of Macca’s show.

At the age of 80, it’s hardly surprising that his voice has gone to a great degree but, whereas many (most?) ageing singers drop the keys of their songs to suit their loss of upper-register, McCartney refuses to do that, and performs them in the keys he sang them in as a young(er) man. That, in itself, is an amazing feat, but to do so for an entire, almost-three-hour, high-energy set is astonishing, and would put many (most?) of the younger performers to shame.

Backed by his superb, tight-as-a-nut band, Macca’s show was a tour-de-force. Immense power, brilliant (goes without saying!) songs, roared out by the absolute, consummate professional - I am completely in awe of the man, his catalogue, his performance talent, and his musicians. He’s the Full Nine Yards.

The usual disclaimers apply - IMHO, YMMV.
