For two grande a day, you're not paying for the room, but for the ability to say "I can afford to blow two grande a day on a room at Hotel Extravaganza". The official term for this sort of thing, I understand, is Veblen good; another (mentioned iirc by Thorstein Veblen) is potlatch.
