Recently the two-disc book Songs of Slavery and Emancipation appeared, as likely as anything released so far this year to be the traditional album of the year. It's full of mostly unfamiliar songs, uncovered via deep research, from the Civil War period. It's performed by various artists, all seriously engaged with the project. High recommended.
