Vic Smith opined "...his [John Howson's] great array of nearly 300 tapes of field recordings (that) are now stored and available in the British Library’s National Sound Archive."

Correction: they are NOT available especially to the public; indeed there has been restricted access on them for very many years. Only those from recognised academic institutions are allowed access - period.

Strange because his informants themselves likely had no academic qualifications whatsoever yet gave of their songs and music quite freely and without expectation of any returns. Yet because of these 'restrictions' on access his sources including their relatives could not access their own contributions, and certainly not each others'.
