On my fingering hand I cut nerves and nearly cut a tendon in two after I plunged down a whirlpool from a canoe and was cut by something sharp on the bottom of a lake in Maine. The repair involved a microscope for the nerve and overlapping of the tendon and sewing. It took 2 years to stretch the tendon back out. Partial sensitivity to two fingers did return.
