The lynching business seems to me, um ... 'fanciful', to put it politely. Applying Occam's Razor - and why not? - it's about a man's jealousy, an unhappy woman, and a railroad accident. Don't know why people feel the need to make it about more; isn't the song haunting and powerful enough already?
