Worth noting that the song is not listed in the Catnach catalogue for 1832 and therefore highly likely dates from after that. I have a vague memory that the song was part of a play of the same name but if it is I haven't noted it down. I may be getting confused with 'Green Bushes'. Either way it has all the attributes of a theatrical piece and the lack of variation points to this as well.
