Rambling Jack was the only one of my early musical heroes that I actually met. My girlfriend at the time and I had a few drinks with him after his last set at the Childe Harold in D.C. and he regaled us with tales of the shenanigans he got up to with the Grateful Dead and their crew on the Europe '72 tour from the year before. Being a couple of Deadheads it left us in a state of euphoria. He was a charming fellow.
