Met him at The Peoples Poetry Gathering in NYC in 1999. We bonded over a shared love of guitars, Jimmie Rogers, and pipe smoking. He was the real deal. I didn't really mind when he won an Indie Award in the '90's, beating Utah Phillips and myself for Best Folk CD. Of course I didn't find anything about it until after we had lost, because Utah never mentioned it. He was a fine singer and guitar picker, and he will be missed.
