Since no-one else has chimed in on this yet, Winchester got enough flack on this at the time (i.e. while he was singing it i.e. still alive) that he changed "memory that's enough for me" to "memory will have to do for me".

My memory of this goes back to the 80s, I will have to look up when he sadly died but I didn't see him play for maybe 10 years before that.
