We get paid for it -- but it sure as hell doesn't pay enough to make it worth it if we weren't also doing it for pleasure. We've stopped taking gigs that have nothing to recommend them except money. But we also don't go out to play unless we are getting paid a fair bit for it. I can have as much fun getting together with friends and playing in the living room. The type of music we play (Euro/Appalachian/Medieval fusion) will never pay us enough to earn a living, but it is a nice addition to the income from our jobs.
