Might that be from you lying down so much recently? We read once that the spine gets slightly shorter during the day, as it's compressed by the load of the upper body, and expands again overnight when the strain's off. We tried it with my brother, and found he was a quarter of an inch taller in the morning than he had been the previous night.

Conversely, we found that my grandmother shrank with age. It's something to do with the body failing to stop itself recycling calcium from the bones.
