We discovered the following in my wife's grandad's songbook.

A Christmas Card

Over the land and over the sea
To a heart that is sad and lonely
Came a message from one who is dear to me
Someone who cares for me only.

One heart beats true though it's far, far away
Loved by long years unmarred
Somebody's thinking of me today
Dear little Christmas card.

Worthless and small you would deem it to be
Placed by each other treasure
But in the tale, it is telling to me
Lies a whole world of pleasure.

Sweet little name after 'from' neatly signed
Dearest on earth I regard
Brightest of visions you bring to my mind
Dear little Christmas card.

Only a card in the old-fashioned way
Telling its love's message clearly
For Auld Lang Syne, coming many a mile
That's why I prize it so dearly.

Sweet little missive from far far away
Brightening a lot that was hard
One lonely heart is made happy today
Dear little Christmas card.


Grandad was called Frank Cheese and there is no hint of a tune with the entry.
Our Roud search produced nothing and there is not an entry in your own extensive database of Christmas related songs.

He wrote out in longhand all the songs he sang. No contemporary family member left so the query is, was he the author of this OR was it a popular sentiment/poem that appealed to him and he noted it down?
