He and I are more alike than I realized. I noted his desire to sing Billy's songs in Carousel, and Soliloquy was always my favorite, too. I am comforted by the fact that Bonnie Raitt's dad, John, sang the part on Broadway and that I have lived long enough to be a fan of two generations of singers from the same family!
