"She leaves a hole in everyone’s heart”

Tributes have been paid to a much-loved singer in the Moorlands.

Lorna Davies, who was very well-known on the folk scene in the Staffordshire Moorlands and beyond, sadly passed away on Friday (October 7 2022).

Lorna, who lived in Cheddleton Heath, was involved in many aspects of the music and creative arts in the area.

She was a member of the quartet ‘Floored Diamond,’ sang with her husband Wal as ‘Koinonia,’ a life member of Potteries Folk Club, a founding director and treasurer of Peace Through Folk, founding member of Leek Peace Choir, and also founder and coordinator of the North Staffs Folk Diary.

Fellow Peace Through Folk founder Malcolm Hawksworth said: “It is with great sadness and shock that we have to tell you that Lorna Davies passed away at 2.30pm on Friday (October 7).

“She had been suffering from a very aggressive and untreatable cancer.

“Lorna will be greatly missed by so many people in the folk scene worldwide and in her beloved Staffordshire Moorlands.”

Lorna was also a poet, singer/songwriter, an artist, photographer, as well as a maker and creator of Christmas, birthday and greeting cards.

Malcolm added: “Her passion for these and many more talents were endless; she leaves a giant’s footprint, and a hole in everyone’s heart.

“Over the coming weeks much will be said in tribute to our friend Lorna.

“For now, our thoughts and consolations go out to her deeply loved husband Wal.”

For several years Lorna spent a good deal of her time producing a weekly email; keeping everyone in touch with all the folky goings on in the area.
