HOLD ON TO THAT THING
Words and music by Bill Boyd.
As recorded by Bill Boyd and His Cowboy Ramblers on Bluebird B-8823-B, 1941.

I went downtown to see my gal just the other night.
I knocked upon her big front door and knocked so sweet and light.
A great big guy with gleaming eyes came out and shook my hand,
And said: “Old pal, you’ve got a gal, so kindly understand—

CHORUS: “Hold on to that thing. Hold on to that thing.
It may be hot, but whether or not, hold on to that thing.
Hold on to that thing. Hold on to that thing.
It may be hot, but whether or not, hold on to that thing.”

She told that she loved me dear and that we’d soon be wed.
First she had a husband that would have to be shot dead.
She handed me a great big gun and then she kinda grinned.
I tossed it back into her lap and says: “Look here, my friend— CHORUS.
