Thread Name: Lyr Add: Danny Boy Parody
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Danny Boy Parody
Dear Jeff:
In a sign of your parody's welcome into the folk tradition, the majority of the first verse traveled through the oral daisy chain to southwestern Ohio by 2008, where I learned all but the final two lines from a good friend. Being quite taken by the fragment and not then able to find the remainder online, I did my best to reconstruct a full version of the parody as I imagined it might have been written; I hope this version gives you a fraction of the joy that your parody has given me over the years.

Oh, Danny boy, you like to claim you're Irish
...
And ev'ry drunkard thinks that he can too.
And then they miss that high note in fourteen tones,
So Danny boy, Oh, Danny boy, you've got to go.

And don't come back, you maudlin little whinger,
When goldfish drown or beers at last run dry.
Just wander off with "Toora Loora Looral";
Go do your bit, you piece of kitsch called "Danny Boy".

Cheers,
Pat
