Thread Name: What is drag?
Subject: RE: What is drag?
"Drag artists" are simply men who dress as women for the purpose of entertainment. It's an umbrella term that encompasses many types of entertainment, however. All from the drag queens who dress as Disney princesses to read stories to children (which is a thing in the US now), to drag cabaret singers to drag standup comedians all the way to the kind of raunchy sex-themed drag artists doing adult shows. Which is why all the controversy about drag artists in the US is so stupid. They act like all drag artists are the same, that they're all sex-oriented, which is wrong. I mean drag queens have been an integral part of kids pantomime in the UK since Victorian times, have they not? They're usually quite saucy and flamboyant, they make the kids laugh and they throw innuendo over the kids' heads to the parents, who laugh as well. Never been any problem or controversy about it. Meanwhile in America....
