10 to 15 March 1814 The Battle of Martín García, fought between the forces of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata under the command of Irish-born Argentine admiral (then-Lieutenant Colonel) Guillermo Brown, and royalist forces, loyal to the Spanish crown. William Brown is now known as the father of the Argentine Navy
