The worst pronunciation, perhaps, I ever heard was on the 1-800 number for Lowe's hardware. It said, "for directions to the pie-al-up store, press 4". I suppose that's understandable because "guy" is pronounced to rhyme with pie. But you'd think, since they have a store tehre, they might find out how to pronounce it.Then again I did hear someone call it "poo-ee-yall-up" which is also understandable, albeit wrong.
I can spell it because I drive through it twice a day and it's all over them green-and-white freeway signs.
Those of you who know how to spell it, pronounce it, and FIND it, do come and hear Jeannie and Scott and their friends. They really are very good "old timey" musicians. Jeannie plays a mean banjo in a style sort of her own (part frailing, part three-finger, and part what-the-hell-is-that), and even plays a FRETLESS banjo on some numbers, which is a treat. She also sings like her maiden name was Carter, which I'm assured it wasn't.
Scott plays a damn' good fiddle.
I can't vouch for the other 2 guys except to say that Scott and Jeannie seem to attract quality musicians the way swimsuit models attract zit-faced teenage boys with visible signs of arousal, if you get my drift.
Y'all come.
