After a hot, dry spring, southwestern Ontario turned chilly and damp about a week ago. All within the normal range for this area of climatic extremes, but disconcerting when the furnace has to start up again after Victoria Day if one is to get any sleep. Yesterday's high was 18C; normally it's more like 27C. Last Monday, the thermometer never struggled above 13C. Oh, and there's still smoke in the air.

However, next week's long-range forecast looks more normal -- sunny and hot.
