Thinking about the traditional conception of the three strains of Irish music - Goltraí, Geantraí, Suantraí (the sorrow strain, the joy strain and the sleep strain respectively) - I got to wondering whether there are equivalent conceptions in other cultures.
I also wonder whether there are specific Scottish Gaelic equivalents to those Irish terms.
