Thread Name: Lyr Add: Damned Old Piney Mountains (C Johnson)
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Damned Old Piney Mountains (C Johnson)
"Podocarpus macrophyllus, commonly called **yew plum pine** or Buddhist pine, is native to mountainous areas of China and Japan. It is an evergreen conifer that typically grows as a narrow-conical tree to 50' tall or sometimes as a large shrub. In cultivation in warm winter areas of the U. S., it usually grows much shorter (to 20-40')."

As I mentioned above, common names and botanical names are of far from consistent. There are probably 20 to 30 woods in the world called "Ironwood"

Yew is a short, handy word but is often applied where it shouldn't be.
