I also had no idea that an STD could allow you in and out of the workhouse infirmary. Often untreated STD was just marked as 'Imbecile' on the workhouse records. The fact that your relative was allowed back out again is a testament to her father, who would have to accept his daughter back home again. This is all relevant to the genealogical research I am undertaking with the Hammond brothers collection. Yes you have been a help, and very kind to take time to post here.
