8–10 October, 1871 The Great Chicago Fire was a conflagration that burned in the American city of Chicago. The fire started in the O'Leary family's barn at 137 DeKoven Street, Chicago, but because of a high wind and dry conditions, it spread to burn a large percentage of the city.
