This song dates back to the 1870s to -880s and was in the Library of Congress written by Charles Blake in the American Song book- it had been sung thru the years by various artists- some of whome were given writing credit but it was a much older song- along the way various other verses seem to have been added. I am guessing Clyde’s Momma taught him from one of those versions
