Thomas Ashe, the golden-haired cousin of Gregory Peck, is described as singing this in Richmond Barracks after the Easter Rising in 1916:
Ashe had a nice singing voice, and I remember well the two songs he sang on that occasion. The first was a song in Gaelic called, in English, "Kilmurry", and the other was a popular favourite of his called "The Colleen by the Lee"
