My favourite rendition of the song is by Johnny Coppin. His grave is a popular place of pilgrimage for parties of school children as part of the national curriculum but is being somewhat desecrated by the tat some people find the need to leave in such places.

A good story but, unfortunately, recent research has revealed that the whole story is largely a work of fiction. He wasn’t 14 and there is strong evidence to suggest that the grave actually contains a completely different person.
