US federal appeals court rejects Donald Trump's sweeping immunity claim

"In short: A federal appeals court has ruled the former US president Donald Trump does not have blanket immunity in a case in which he has been charged with plotting to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

"The court found that any "executive immunity" provided by the presidency no longer shielded him from prosecution.

"What's next? The case will be paused until at least February 12 to give Mr Trump's team time to appeal to the US Supreme Court."
