Someone on NPR was being interviewed. I don't know if they (or anyone in the West) can be considered a Russian 'expert' but their opinion was that this was a sign of weakness on the part of P***n because if he was strong, the death of a political opponent would not be necessary. I think there might be some truth to it but I also think it might be over-simplistic in Russia.
