Thread Name: Folklore: Listen, Listen the Cat is Pissing (poem)
Subject: RE: Folklore: Quick, Quick the Cat is Sick (poem)
Quick quick
the cat's been sick.
Where? Where?
Under the Chair.
Hasten, hasten
Fetch the basin.
Kate, Kate,
You're far too late,
The rug is in a dreadful state.

Listen! Listen.
The Cat is pissin.
Where? Where?
Under the chair.
Run! Run!
Get the gun.
Too late, she'll
soon be done.

These two examples illustrate -- perhaps inelegantly -- both the conservative retention of phrases, words, and sound, and the dynamic invention of variation....
