LA NOIRIÇA (Occitan)

Lou rei a 'na nouriça
Pus bèla que lou jour.
Lou rei a 'na nouriça
Liroun lanfà de lalireta,
Pus bèla que lou jour,
Liroun lanfà de lalirà.

Ela s'es endormida
Lo Dalfin al costat

Quand s'es desrevelhada
L'a trobat estofat

Es sortida, pecaire!
Per se'n anar negar

Lo rei a la fenestra
Que l'a vista passar

"On te vas, tu, noiriça?
Lo Dalfin va plorar.

Monta dins ta cambreta
E vai te'n cordurar."

Al primièr còp d'agulha,
Justicia n'a montat.

Al second còp d'agulha
Potencia n'a dreiçat

Quand foguèt sus l'escala
Lo Dalfin a parlat:

"Pendètz pas ma noiriça
Non l'a pas meritat!

Aquò es la sirventa
Que m'a empoisonat."
THE NURSE

The king has a [wet] nurse
More beautiful that daylight
The king has a nurse
Liroun lanfà de lalireta,
More beautiful that daylight
Liroun lanfà de lalirà.

She fell asleep
With the Dauphin/Crown Prince by her side

When she woke up
She found him suffocated

She went out, poor dear!
To go drown herself

The king by the window
Saw her pass by.

"Where are you going, nurse,
The Dauphin will cry.

Go up to your [little] bedroom
And sew."

At the first needle stitch
The justice went up.

At the second needle stitch,
The gallows was put up.

When she was on the steps
The Dauphin spoke:

"Don't hang my nurse,
she didn't deserve it!

It's the servant
Who poisoned me."
This is the Narbonne version of it that can be found in "Anthologie de la chanson occitane" by Cécile Marie, G.P. Maisonneueve et Larose, Paris, 1975. Three Occitan versions can be found in Recueil de chansons populaires, III by Eugène Rolland.

I couldn't find an Occitan rendition of the song but here is a French version of it. The song is originally Occitan.
