Thread Name: Passover / Pesach songs
Subject: ADD: Adir Hu (for Passover)
Joe, Joan Frankel sang two Passover songs at today's singaround. I didn't join until after the first one, so I don't know what it was. The second was Adir Hu. Here are the lyrics from https://www.zemirotdatabase.org/view_song.php?id=117. There are other arrangements out there, mostly designed to make it go faster. The "beiso" in the first line of each stanza is the Ashkenazic pronunciation; the Sephardic is "beito". The "beiso" in the third line, I learned as "beitcha".

The song is an "acrostic", in that the Hebrew words adir, bachur, gadol, ..., when written in Hebrew, begin with the first, second, third, ..., letters of the Hebrew alphabet, aleph, bet, gimel, ....

There is some discussion of the song at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adir_Hu

I append a translation by Eve Levavi, also taken from the zemirot page linked above.

He is mighty. May He rebuild His temple soon!
Speedily, speedily, in our days, soon!

He is just.
He is blameless.
He is righteous.
He is pure.
He is singular.

He is learned.
He is Sovereign.
He is radiant.
He is strong.
He is valorous.
